Divisha POV
Being born with a harlot tag etched in my fate and getting raped at the age of 13 when I didn't even knew what rape was, is not something which can be marked as a start of fairytale but a curse.
Which is it. My life.
Life has never been fair for me. If we say family, then there was no chance of me to have it because my own mother sold me to a brothel when I was 8, because of some fucked up reasons which I don't want to know.
Carrer, you think? Nah! Never!
Who would want a whore as an employee who could sleep around with anyone for money or sell company's secrets to their masters, as they call me that.
It may seem very harsh to rub on myself but the truth always stings. Endless nights in drain, with tireless efforts to get a job yet at the end all I got was those remarks from society.
It was not like I asked job for free or was begging to take me in. I work hard to earn my bread daily.
I am like all others workers trying to survive to see the next day of their life, if not then more because of the social taunts I get whenever I try to improve my livings. They doubt me. For what I'm not.
This society can give money for my body but would not expect me to be a part of it. That's fair because i myself don't want to live in such kind of made up 'society ' where they call names to everyone who are not at their level.
Those level which are decided by money, power which are earned through more worse ways than laying.
I'm a fucked up prostitute who just have a body which can lure the hidden demons inside human flesh and facade sweet faces.
Guess what, from their perspective people like me are to be excluded from the society but what about those who kill for money, those who torture their wives, daughters for nothing.
Those who fuck women, rape them. Are they considered involved?
If yes, then the question is why?
Anyways, I was talking about myself and I have a sister with me. Not biological but life entangled our paths.
She hates me like every other individual nothing unique in that but the problem is that I love her. And it hurts much worse to listen those toxic words from hers than those given by the world.
But she is atlest not a prostitute like me. We were adopted by a nursing home when the prostitution center where I was sold was seized by the police.
She was already there in nursing home when I reached. She had friends at that time, whom she used and manipulated for her own good and support. There, we were raised by a lady, whom they called our mother but she was actually not. Her name was, Padama.
We stayed there till 18 and after that we left the nursing home to survive on our own. She is 2 years older than me but managed to gag her smartness and stayed for a longer period.
We worked till our ass were numb and legs were cold. We worked as receptionists in some 24/7 grocery shop. The first owner we encountered was rude, gosh I still remember him. Old and an asshole. Looking at our body almost everyday.
After all the struggles and torment I have finally overcomed some of my past and now going to work at this house as a maid, I know it won't improve my situation well but atleast it's paying good.
Kritika, my sister set me up for this, claiming "What else you can do, huh? Stripping? Since you don't know anything else, work as a maid and bring some good money for me. They are rich, they'll pay enough and nice."
So, here I am. Standing infront of a whole supermarket as the house is so huge that I think it can hold ration of a whole state. These rich brats! They have money to flaunt where some people cannot even afford 2 proper meals in a day.
Taking lungs full of air I moved past the gates after arguing with security guards for almost an hour convincing that I actually came for the maid's position and would not steal something.
They were thinking of me like a thief.
The lawn area was vibrant with different kind of flowers and plants alleviating the surrounding, it looked heavenly beautiful.
The air felt free and pure here.
The scented air is so much refreshing than the smell of those gutters around our area where I live. It is quite here too, I could hear the voice of nature, chirping of birds here.
Coming inside, I saw an old lady coming towards my directions as soon as she saw me entering the doors. "What do you need?" She asked formally.
Such confidence and radiant voice made me a little nervous I swallowed a thick lump and replied, "I came here for the maid's position."
"Oh, yes. You're divisha, right?" She asked and I nodded. After that she led me inside and told me my work was actually to serve a child of this house.
Yes, just this, I thought to myself. Does that mean I'll not have to work like a pig here.
She told me that child's name but I forgot it was a nice and sweet name.
I hope the child is sweet, too. Because, I am not a sweetheart when it comes to children. They irritate me alot. Their stupid cries and nagging leaves me with some cringing thoughts.
But I want this job, so I need to be good with that child. It's about my future and I'll do it at any costs.
I also need money to complete my masters. I was able to graduate with scholarship but I have to do MA on my own.
Suddenly, when I was roaming my eyes here and there to absorb the grand feature and architecture of the 'house', I saw a kid running towards me while straddling a skateboard between his feets. I think this was the same child whom I had to serve.
"You are the tooth faily, right?" He stopped infront of me and asked such weird question with his sloggy pronunciation. What is faily and tooth, what? I was truly puzzled by his choice of greeting a new person.
"Mujhe kuch samjh nhi aya, app kya keh Rahe ho?" I asked to which he smiled showing the gap between his teeths.
It was adorable. Are usually children this much adorable? I wondered.
(I do not understand, what you are saying?)
After thinking and staring he said, "App tooth faily ho na jisne mera dant le liya jo maine takiye ke niche lakha tha. Ab mujhe mera gift do, faily." Now i understood what he said but why he was thinking of me some fairy when I was just a maid.
(You are the same toothfairy, no, who took my teeth which I kept under my pillow. Now, give me my gift)
And what the hell he meant by gift. This gibberish tone of his is an interruption in our conversation.
Still I managed to say, "I am not a fairy and I did not took your tooth." His face was flashed with sadness which immediately took me to a panic mode. I dare not to upset him or else my job will gooo! And I don't want that.
"Hey, don't worry. I know where tooth fairy is and she'll give you a gift tomorrow. OK?" I lied in a hope to lighten his mood. Gosh, he has everything still he want more gifts. I rolled my eyes a little.
You're lucky enough to afford this tantrum little child otherwise I never had a thought of my own when I was around your age. My body was not mine nor my brain.
I thought while looking down at his face which was empty now because he was thinking something. His small pink palm were on his chin frantically tapping like an adult. I smiled a little looking at his cute pout.
"Ok, but who are you if you're not a fairy and why are you wearing a white dress?" He asked in his own tone on which I had to think hard to understand.
"I am a new maid here, a personal maid of yours. And this dress is not white but grey actually." Why am I even talking on this stupid topics with a child. Gosh!
"A new maid, I see." Suddenly the child's voice passed the puberty and felt like an adult's voice. I got a little taken aback when I saw that the voice was not actually of a child but a real adult.
A man.
I looked behind and answered to whoeverhe was, "Yes, sir." I kept my reply short as I don't know what to say. His gaze was so intimidating and his big hazel eyes felt like drill to my soul. He moved forward and stood behind the child. His figure trying to hide both of our existence as he was tall. So tall.
"And how may you entered this house?" His deep voice sent a shiver down my spine but I stayed calm and replied in a low tone ,
"A lady took me in. She said that the maid's place was vacant. She also know me, so I am not lying." I had to over explain or he'll also think of me as a thief.
"Did I said that you were lying?" I was stricken by his question and the cold face he carried.
Bhagwan bachao mujhe! I cried for God's help as he was scaring me. Plus I do not want to lose this opportunity to earn something good.
"No." I replied simply after composing myself. My vocabulary is feeling short infront of him. Why so much of interrogation, maybe he is the owner of this house.
"Fine then. You may get this job but you have to prove your worth." He said and I instantly asked, "How?"
I would do anything, was silent.
"Can you chase Shiv and catch him within 5 mins." He pointed towards the child standing between his wide legs.
Chase? Catch? Is this kind of a cat and mouse race?
"Fine. I'll do it, now." I agreed anyways. After listening to my answer he looked at the child's eyes. As if after an instruction he started to run and I stood puzzled still figuring out what to do.
Oh! I have to run. RUN!! I was pushed into an autopilot mode where my legs reacted on it's own.
So, I ran with my full speed to catch this small mouse of a child. I think both these male species just want some entertainment or is doing this to humiliate my helplessness.
But still ignoring those stinging thoughts I ran and tried to catch him who was now running like a snake waving his tail here and there.
"2 mins left." The man shouted and I ran with my full effort, till now I was short of breath. What this child this, an athlete? I doubt if the man itself can catch this naughty child.
With my desperate attempts I was able to catch the mouse within time limit. So, now what? The game is over and I got the job? I wondered and looked up at the man with proud face as if I won a battle against monsters.
Years of standing surely did some strengthening to my legs which are slim as a stick. I rolled my eyes a little thinking of the gibberish and unhealthy state of my body.
"Well done, you are qualified. Now, go and talk to the head maid for rest of the paperwork." With that he shoved his hands in his pockets and turned his heels to go away. But I stopped him before he could go.
"Wait. Why playing this game instead of an interview?" I asked while he looked at my face for a few seconds. "You'll know." He simply said and went away, leaving me pondering in a pool of questions.
Everyone is weird in this house. I have to stay away from their antics to stay sane, but also have to tolerate it enough to be regular to this job of a maid.
After that I moved further to find the head worker of the house. We discussed some details about my position and work, she was actually a bit strict. Her specs hovering over the tip of her nose gave her a Hitler vibe.
Finally, after an hour of interrogation and signing some papers, I got my first job. As a maid, but still, it's work. And no work is small or big.
